Owl’right, Owl’right, Owl’right.

I love going to the Hudson River Valley in New York, not only does a very dear friend live there, but the countryside is beautiful and there’s so much natural beauty all around you. Considering the local environs, it’s really no surprise that it’s been an inspiration source for so many artists, and famous even for the Hudson River School, which is credited for being the first coherent American art style, which was very prevalent in the 19th Century and has a legacy that still influences and inspires artists today. The style was known for natural landscapes, and celebrating the environmental wonders and work of the divine found in the world around us as typified by a long list of prominent artists, some of which can be found here.

The atmosphere of this image gives the impression of snow, but the white flecks in the background were some sort of fungus growing inside this hollowed out tree. While the mood of the image seems to suggest Winter, I took this shot on a recent autumn trip where it was in the mid 70s outside.

I’m not sure, but I believe this is a Barred Owl. If anyone knows for sure, could you please let me know?

New Greeting Cards

Here’s a teaser image of my new blank greeting card stock.

These are 5×7″ cards on 14 pt cardstock, with High Gloss UV Coating on the outside, the inside is uncoated to make it easier to write on.

They’ll be debuting at my booth inside the Foust Event Center at this year’s Grapefest, held September 14th-17th in Grapevine, Texas.

Central Arts of Bedford – Me & My Critter – Gallery Show

For those of you in the Dallas / Fort Worth area, please come on out and support me as well as other local artists at the next themed show at the Central Arts of Bedford. I’ll have several pieces for sale in the exhibit featuring some of the ‘critters’ (Ravens, Ducks, Longhorns, and Bees oh my!) I’ve taken photos of in my nature photography. I will be on hand until at least 9pm to admire the works of others, and to talk about my own photographic works. I hope to see you there!

Summer Blues – Peacocks & Feathers

On a recent trip to Austin, Texas I decided to swing by one of the city’s hidden gems, the Mayfield Park which features cottage style gardens, ponds of waterlilies, and peacocks roaming the grounds. I was there for about 2 hours waiting for a magical moment, and then finally one of the peacocks decided to spread their magnificent plumage in a full display. Nature Photography is part planning, part skill, part patience, and part luck. Of course I remembered one of the most crucial tenets of nature photography, don’t forget to look behind you, and don’t forget to look up, which helped me notice one particular peacock hanging out in a trees branches around 16 feet above me.

7 designs to choose from in 5×5″ sizes:

Six designs printed on Metallic Pearl Cardstock. You can view some video here, to see the specialty paper.

  1. Texas Longhorns I (one facing, one mostly turned away)
  2. Texas Longhorns III (side profiles)
  3. Quoth the Raven
  4. Tulip
  5. Quacked Up Pair (Ducks)
  6. Poppy

One design printed on Glossy 130# Paper.

  1. This Side of the Pond
Things of Note:
  • Some Postal Services may require extra postage on the 5×5″ square shaped pieces of mail.
  • On the 5×5″ Metallic Pearl cards, because the inside of the card has the same paper treatment as the front, this means that it’s a bit tricky to write on. I’ve had the best success with Sharpie Markers (not to be confused with the Sharpie Pens), but you will need to give it about 10 seconds to prevent smudging.

2 designs to choose from in 5×7″ sizes:

Printed on 14 pt cardstock, with High Gloss UV Coating on the outside, the inside is uncoated to make it easier to write on.

  1. Peacock
  2. Sunflowers – IV

Art Anywhere

I am a big believer that no space is too small for art. Whether it’s your office in a row of cubicles, a locker, or a wee little nook, you can always fill it with things that inspire and move you.

In that spirit, I’ve put together a bunch of mini-frames, with 3×3 inch prints inside them of my photos, which I’ll be selling at my booth in the Foust Event Center for $10 a piece this upcoming weekend (May 19-21, 2017) at Main Street Days in Grapevine, Texas. Here’s a sneak peak of what’s available:
